OUR COUNCILMAN STEVE MADISON IS DEFENSE ATTORNEY FOR THE DIMASSA FAMILY THAT KILLED OUR CHILD AND COVERED IT UP
By Doug Forbes
Advocacy is hard. But whether it is Greenpeace or Amnesty International or a little advocacy organization like Meow Meow Foundation, all of us have an obligation to constituents to hold wrongdoers, lawmakers and ourselves accountable for doing right by generations that will follow.
The Attorney General’s office advised us that our very own councilman, Steve Madison, who represents Pasadena’s 6th District, has chosen to also represent the facility owner where Roxie died from a preventable drowning. The camp owner is defending herself against the Attorney General’s Complaint for Injunctive Relief.
In other words, our councilman is representing the business responsible for our interminable suffering.
Madison has effectively refused to consider the ramifications of how such choices affect his very own constituents. Not only do we find this unethical, we find it to be morally bankrupt behavior from someone who is on the cusp of being reelected.
Our foundation sent the below note to Madison’s global law firm, specifically founder John Quinn. We also left messages for Madison himself. Madison is currently up for reelection in Pasadena’s District 6. His opponent is Tamerlin Godley. Final results are not yet determined.
Should you wish to join our advocacy effort that holds politicians accountable for protecting the best interests of children and families, contact Madison directly to let him know how you feel about his actions… smadison@cityofpasadena.net | 626-744-4739 stevemadison@quinnemanuel.com | or 213-443-3150 OR smadison@cityofpasadena.net | 626-744-4739.

QE Partner Steve Madison has chosen to represent [ ] in a matter filed by the AG’s office which seeks Injunctive Relief.
Madison is Pasadena’s councilman for District 6. He is our councilman. And we are the parents of the 6-year-old girl that drowned nine short months ago in the pool located at [ ] facility.
We were made aware that Madison is a personal friend of [ ]. The Department of Social Services found that [ ] is operating an unlicensed child care facility. She defied the law and continued to operate the illegal facility this winter. She continues to defy authorities by actively soliciting for her summer camp.
And now Madison supports her efforts to remain open despite [ ] defiance.
We find it reprehensible that Madison has taken this action, full well knowing the context and the players. Therefore, we have no other recourse but to inform our constituents. We have also alerted greater Los Angeles media outlets that have already covered our story, including coming stories in the LAT, NBC and CalMatters.
We are also engaging the Pasadena mayor’s office and city council. Our pending bill and our relentless advocacy efforts statewide put millions of at-risk children first. If this is how Madison considers his constituents, including families and children, ethics be damned.
